#1 Sifu Greg Ringness

         

Sifu Greg Ringness is a Second Generation Kenpo Black Belt, where today the generational gap is somewhere between 8 to 10 degrees behind the true flame. Sifu Greg is also a first Generation under Sifu Keith See who studied under the Great Kenpo Masters: William Chow, Adriano Emperado and Ed Parker of Hawaii.

American Kenpo is a martial arts system characterized by the use of quick moves in rapid-fire succession intended to overwhelm an opponent. It is derived from traditional Southern Chinese kung fu and other martial arts found in the cultural melting pot of Hawaii.


#2 Maitre Roger Lafond

           

Professeur Roger Lafond is The living Legend of Savate. With Savate entwined in his family since the time of Casseux. He learned from both his Father Eugene Lafond II and Grand Father Eugene Lafond I who was a student of Micheal Casseux, Hubert Lecour as well as Hubert Lebroucher.


Is the Creator of Panache. Creating it after the myth of how a Savatier with panache could not be cut with a knife or struck down with a bullet. He still teaches privately student that have become Professeurs of both Canne and Boxe Francaise. Teaching the last discipline of Panache. His Students include : His son Jean Lafond Maurice Sarry, Christian Guillaume, Jean-Paul Viviani, Paul-Raymond Buitron III and André Germe

 


#3 Guru Bob Vanatta
 

       


Silat Bledek is an American martial art based largely on the Indonesian Martial Arts of Pentjak Silat Serak and Pukulan Pentjak Silat Tongkat. Several years ago Guru Bob Vanatta the senior most instructor under Maha Guru Victor deThouars, was encouraged by his instructor to create a method for teaching the Indonesian arts to Americans. Silat Bledek is the result of that effort. The title Silat (martial art) Bledek (thunder) was given to the art by my instructor Maha Guru Victor deThouars and pays respect to its Indonesian roots.


#4 Guro Ron Saturno

      

Guro Ron Saturno is a serious, detailed, instructor who has a powerful Technical Base. Guro Ron is number 6 of the 11 Guros that Master Cabalas produced himself.

He comes form the training of the Serrada Escrima System. Serrada means close or to close in. The term Serrada, was used by Grandmaster Angel Cabales its founder, to differentiate his style of Escrima from the other Filipino Martial Art styles at that time, back in 1968.


#5 Grand Master Alii Don Nahoolewa

Senior Grandmaster Alii Don Nahoolewa is a native of Hawaii and grew up on the rugged back-streets of Honolulu. Although he trained with Sijo Adriano Emperado his principal instructor was the legendary great grandmaster Aleju Reyes beginning in 1959 while stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California. SGM Nahoolewa was the first Black Belt promoted by Mr. Reyes and he is the originator of the American Kempo Association, an umbrella organization for all Kenpo karate schools. He is the founder and chairman of the board for the American Kajukembo Association (AKA), which boasts thousands of members who are striving to standardize and unify the Art.

SGM Nahoolewa is known to be about as tough as a man can be but with a heart of gold. During his days in the Military he was also stationed for several years in Albuquerque's Kirtland Air Force Base. There he began teaching Kajukenbo to military personnel, except for one notable civilian in grandmaster Sam Allred. The AKA closely follows the original Kempo Karate as taught by Sijo Emperado to Great grandmaster Aleju Reyes and finally Senior Grandmaster Alii Don Nahoolewa.


#6 Master Richard "Huk" Planas

 Richard "Huk" Planas

 Mr. Planas began his Kenpo training in Fresno, California in the late sixties under Steve Labounty and Tom Kelly.  He moved to Texas to help Tom Kelly open a school in El Paso in 1969 and then moved to Pasadena, California to go to work for Grandmaster Ed Parker. 

He received his Black Belt and all subsequent rank personally from Grandmaster Ed Parker up to Seventh Degree; the highest non-honorary, non-political rank given by Parker in 1985.  He became the Manager of the Pasadena school for several years, as well as the Executive Vice President of the International Kenpo Karate Association for the last ten years Grandmaster Ed Parker lived.  Throughout this time, Mr. Planas was also instrumental in the development of the original manuals

Known as the "Instructor`s Instructor," Mr. Planas teaches the "whys" of Kenpo, not just the "hows" based on the rules and principals of motion. After Parker's passing other associations were formed, one of which promoted Mr. Planas to Eighth Degree in 1991.  Then in 1995 several associations joined together to promote him to Ninth Degree Black.

Though his expertise is mainly in Kenpo he has studied many other arts, including; Judo, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Shotokan, and Silat.

Today, Mr. Planas has students throughout the United States and also in the following countries: Argentina, Canada, Cayman Isles, Chile, England, Denmark, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Jersey Channel Islands, Patagonia, Spain, and Sweden. 


#7 Professeur Richard Sylla

Professeur Richard Sylla is one of Savate: Boxe Francaise greatest Boxers. He was 10 time French Champion as well as kick boxing world Champion. He started training with Professeur Richard Genaudeau in Savate after his Professeur stopped teaching; he continued training with Professeur Robert Paturel.

Richard Sylla is one of the pioneers of the Savate: Boxe Francaise when the two parents arts ( Boxe Francasie & Savate)  merge of the two Federations occurred. From 1990 to 2004 he was the National Trainer of the French Team of Savate: Boxe Francaise.

He produced countless French Champions and World Champions. He produced the following Professeurs of Savate: Boxe Francaise Richard Thomas, Stephen Gaugne, Jean-loius Lancene, Paul-Raymond Buitron III, Sebastian Farina, Francois Pennacio, Jean Baptiste Agua, Eddy Bague. 


#7 Mestre Acordeon

Ubirajara (Bira) Guimarães Almeida (born 1943 - ), better known as Mestre Acordeon, is a native of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, and a master of the Brazilian Martial art known as capoeira. His international reputation as a respected teacher, performer, musician, organizer, and author is built upon fifty years of active practice, as well as research into the origins, traditions, political connotations, and contemporary trends of capoeira.


Acordeon was a student of the legendary Mestre Bimba in the late 1950s and began teaching capoeira in the early 1960s. He won three titles in capoeira national championships in the 1970s before coming to the United States towards the end of 1978. Acordeon introduced capoeira on the West Coast in early 1979 and currently he maintains the United Capoeira Association (UCA) with several associated schools. He also has created the Capoeira Arts Foundation in Berkeley, California .
 


#8 Mestre Jelon

Jelon Vieira is a Brazilian choreographer and Master who, in 2000, achieved recognition by New York City's Brazilian Cultural Center as a pioneer in presenting to American audiences the Brazilian Martial art Capoeira.

In 1975, Jelon Vieira and fellow choreographer/performer Loremil Machado became the first artists to bring traditional Afro-Brazilian artistic endeavors to the United States. For over a quarter century, as the founder and artistic director of The Capoeira Foundation.

He has taught Capoeira to legendary footballer Pelé and American movie stars Wesley Snipes and Eddie Murphy. Snipes, himself a top martial arts practitioner, has described Vieira as one of "the masters of the martial arts of the 20th century".
Upon returning to Brazil, in his home community of Boca do Rio, a bairro of the nation's third-largest city, Salvador, Vieira continues to teach children and young adults the art of Capoeira to build self-esteem, instill self-discipline and raise social consciousness while at the same time becoming a vital part of their own community. In 2007, after having devoted many years to Grupo Capoeira Brasil, he founded his own Capoeira Grupo, Capoeira Luanda.
 


 #9 Guru Stevan Plinck

Guru Stevan Plinck has practiced Silat his entire life, including Soeti Hati taught to him by his grandmother and Sumatran styles taught to him by his uncle Guru John de Jong.

He studied Serak under Guru Besar Arthur Remrev for eight years and then under Pendakar Paul de Thouars for over twenty years, and has continued to study various silat styles and systems such as: Pukulan Pentjak Silat Bukti Negara.

Maha Guru Stevan Plinck is safeguarding the Silat Art by maintaining its content and progressive development which he has developed ever a child.

 Maha Guru Stevan served his country with honor in the US Special Forces, a former Green Beret and is recognized as one of the nation’s foremost practitioners of Serak Silat.


#10 Guro Carlito Bonjoc

 

Guro Bonjoc was born in the Philippines where he began his martial arts studies at an early age. Under the tutorage of his father Grandmaster Carlito Bonjoc Sr., he was taught his first Filipino martial arts system known as the Cadiz-Lapu Lapu Escrima.  As the 4th generation master in the Bonjoc family line.

One of these masters was Roy Ornor. Master Ornor taught Carlito the Talawan Largo Mano system. This system is a long-range blade art that focuses on fighting multiple attackers.

In 1979 Carlito Jr. was introduced to the distinguished Grandmaster Angel Cabales. With his father's approval, Carlito learned the Cabales Serrada system. In June of 1983 Carlito Jr. obtained and advanced degree in the Cabales Serrada system. After this achievement, Grandmaster Cabales continued to instruct Carlito privately in the finer points of the Serrada system. Due to this training, Carlito became a knowledgeable and respected Guro in the Angel Cabales Academy.


      

Grand Master Mike Pick- American Kenpo

GRAND MASTER MICHAEL “MIKE” PICK began his career in Kenpo karate at the tender age of 10. His teacher was the legendary American Kenpo Karate founder, Grandmaster Ed Parker. On March 19, 1965 he was awarded his Black Belt by Grandmaster Parker himself. Grandmaster Pick is a former Marine who saw extensive action in Vietnam in the late 1960s. For his battlefield gallantry he was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Naval Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Vietnamese Legion of Merit, Vietnamese Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. After Grandmaster Parker’s death, Grandmaster Pick left the International Kenpo Karate Association, and he founded the Universal Kenpo Federation in the early 1990s.

 


 

      

Grand Master Frank Trejo- American Kenpo

 

            GRAND MASTER FRANK TREJO began his formal martial arts career in 1966 in the Japanese karate style known as Shotokan. In 1969 he met and started training with the legendary American Kenpo Karate Founder: Grandmaster Ed Parker.He was doing Mixed Martial Arts long before the term was ever coined. A compassionate humanitarian, in 1985 Mr. Trejo started a program called “Creative Physical Fitness” to benefit children with physical, mental, and social challenges. He has been publicly recognized for his work with children. Grandmaster Trejo is recognized as a 10th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo. He has instructed or has been bodyguard to such notable celebrities as Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Billy Idol, etc. In his spare time, Mr. Trejo enjoys singing and playing guitar in blues bands.


 

 

 

          

Maitre Robert Paturel-Savate

PROFESSEUR ROBERT PATUREL, or “Patu,” as his students and friends affectionately refer to him, is a native of France and is one of the most respected Professeurs of Savate in general. He started Savate training at a very early age and became one of the youngest Professeurs in the history of the art. Professeur Paturel was trained by his brother Christian Paturel and by Richard Genaudeau, who later left him in charge of the Savate salle (studio) at Rueil. Prof. Paturel has the following Professeurs under his name: Richard Sylla, Dominique Dahklaoui, Dany Roca, Paul-Raymond Buitron III, and Marc Seni in Savate and Savate:Boxe Francaise. Professeur Paturel started the French Federation of Tonfa in 1990 and he was one of the co-founders of Danse de Rue Savate in 1994. In 2003 he founded Boxe de Rue, which is taught to the police of France.


 

                        

Guru Paul Silva- Silat/Kenpo/Kali

GURU PAUL SILVA earned his Black Belt in Kenpo karate in the early 1970s after transitioning over from the Korean fighting arts. With the blessing of the Kenpo organization he belonged to, he then went on to study the Indo-Filipino weapons systems and became an accomplished fighter/teacher within those arts. Guru Silva then began an intensive research of the Filipino systems and found a lineage to Pentjak Silat. After six years of intensive study in Pentjak Silat, he earned the title of Guru and was permitted to teach Silat. Throughout his studies in the Filipino arts, Guru Paul has trained with some of the most widely recognized masters of said arts. Guru Silva has been described as a great bare knuckles full-contact fighter, a great motorcycle mechanic/rider, and a devoted student and good friend to many.


 

        

Guro Vincent Cabalas- Serrada Escrima

GRAND MASTER VINCENT CABALES was born in California in 1954, and he is the son of the late Grandmaster Angel Cabales, who is known as the “Father of Escrima in the America.” The Cabales family originated the Filipino martial art known as Cabales Serrada Escrima. Vincent started learning his father’s art as an eight-year-old boy in California and by the age of sixteen he was already teaching said art.  In 1974, Vincent Cabales became the first student of Cabales Serrada Escrima to be promoted to Master level, and in 1976 it was announced that he would take over as Grandmaster upon the passing of his father. This happened in March of 1991 and thereafter Vince became the head of the academy that Grandmaster Angel founded. So, in essence, Grandmaster Vincent Cabales is true lineage holder of the Cabales Serrada Escrima lineage.


 

        

Sifu/Guro Bud Thompson -Jeet Kune Do

SIFU/GURO BUD THOMPSON was first introduced to the Oriental martial arts in 1953, at least a full decade before the martial arts started to gain popularity in America. It would not be an exaggeration to say he is one of the founding fathers of the martial arts movement in America.

The year 1965 proved to be a pivotal year in Mr. Thompson’s life. Early that year he met Dan Inosanto and the legendary Bruce Lee. From that day onward he knew he had found the art he had always been looking for. In fact, the teachings of Inosanto and Lee became the major inspirations in his life. In addition, Bud Thompson has trained under no less than thirty of the most widely recognized martial arts masters in the world such as: Grandmaster Floro Villabrille, Tuhan Ben Largusa, Guro Greg Lantayo, Master Johnny LaCoste, Sifu/Guro Dan Inosanto, Sifu/Guro Richard Bustillo, Sifu/Guro Jerry Poteet, Sifu/Guro Larry Hartsell, Guro Lucky Lucay Lucay, Sifu/Guro Teddy Lucay Lucay, Sifu/Guro Jeff Imada, Master Angel Cabales, Master Leo Giron, Ciriaco Canete, Grandmaster Pendakar Paul De Thouars, Guro John De Jong, Guru Steve Plinck, Punong Guro Edgar G.
